Hoy adquirí el audiolibro de Bobby Chiu "The Perfect Bait" en él, Bobby cuenta como ha ido creciendo en su conocimiento a lo largo de su carrera y compartiendo las formas de como lo ha hecho, así que me puse a reflexionar si yo de hecho había crecido en mis habilidades, y fue un gusto darme cuenta que sí. Aquí la prueba, en el 2006 realicé un proyecto para Visión Mundial Guatemala, ellos creyeron en mí y me contrataron. Ahora el observar esos trazos toscos y pobre construcción en el dibujo me hace pensar que con la práctica de otros 6 años algo he aprendido. Visión Mundial siguió creyendo en mi año tras año y gracias a ellos pude tener retos que ayudaron a mi técnica. Gracias

Today I bought Bobby Chiu´s audiobook called "The Perfect Bait" where he tells how he has improved his drawing skills through time, and sharing tips on how to do that. So that made me think if in fact I had grow in mines..I searched for some old drawings and found these. It was a project for World Vision Guatemala back in 2006, they believed in me and hired me and this is how it turned out. Now that I see all the crappy lines and poor construction in the characters I realized that in 6 years Ive learn more than I thought. Thanks to World Vision Guatemala who year after year believed in me, I got to challenge myself to become a better illustrator. Thank you!

Estoy muy contenta con lo vivido en el 2011! Me tropecé, aprendí y me atreví. Todo esto me llevó a vivir cosas maravillosas. Les deseo un 2012 lleno de retos y risas. Ésta ilustración nace por mi necesidad de manejar mejor la temperatura de los colores. Recientemente trabajé mi primer comic infantil dirigido a niños y niñas de el área Polochic. I´m excited of everything I lived in 2011! I tripped, learn and dare to do new adventures. Everything gave me the chance to experience wonderful things. Hace poco compré ésta bolsa en la Antigua Guatemala, en una tienda que se llama "De Colores" a 10m del arco. Una de las mejores adquisiciones, la calidad es fantástica. Al verla, mi estado de ánimo mejora. Llena de tantos colores, que aunque el día sea gris yo llevo color :)

Recently I bought this handbag in Antigua Guatemala, in a store called "De Colores" near the arc. One of the best acquisitions, the quality is great. Just by looking at it my mood gets better. Full of so many colors, even though the day is gray I carry color with me :)
Desde hace tiempo tenía la idea de adaptar mi tema favorito, con diferentes personajes. Una mapachita de Momostenango, Totonicapán. El crayón de madera no es de mis favoritos, por requerir tanta paciencia. Pronto publicaré la versión final.

From a while ago, I have had the idea of doing anthropomorphism, the nice thing is that I'm able to keep working with Guatemalan topics. This raccoon's clothes belongs to Momostenango, Totonicapán. Colored pencils are not my favorite, they require a considerable amount of patience. Soon I'll post the final illustration.

This little girl was created because I needed to practice my watercolor skills, its been long since I painted with this technique. I was so happy, to be away from the computer for at least a few hours.The mayan dress is from San Mateo Ixtatán, Huehuetenango. I listen to Adele while painting this little girl :)
Aquí está parte del grupo que pertenece al taller de teatro que mi hermana imparte en Simaculheu. Fué un verdadero placer poder compartir con ellas durante el día, ayudando a documentar sus actividades y desarrollo dentro del taller. La labor que realiza mi hermana con estas patojas y patojos es maravillosa. El dibujar el traje indígena brinda en mi mucha felicidad pero el llevarlo puesto es otra historia, es un orgullo.
El proceso de vestirme fué divertido entre ellas me ayudaron y pude sentir el peso del tejido. Esconder mis jeans fue practicamente imposible, ya que la faja aprieta fuerte y me impedía agacharme, pero ellas amablemente me ayudaron :)

Here is part of the group that belongs to the theatrical workshop that my sister is teaching in Simaculheu. It was really an honor to be able to share with them through the day, being part of the process. The work that my sister does with these girls and boys is wonderful. To draw the guatemalan textiles is awesome but to wear them its a whole new story, I felt proud.
The process of getting dress was hard if I hadn´t had the help of the girls I wouldn´t have been able to do it, just wanting to bend over was hard because of the tight belt ;)
Tenía 12 años, cuando conocí la música de Facundo Cabral, todos los días a las 6 de la mañana pasaban la canción "Hoy es un nuevo día". Con mi mamá escuchabamos la canción justo antes que yo me fuera a estudiar. Su letra me animaba, y fue un ritual que tuvimos por algún tiempo. Hoy me entristece por un sin fin de razones su partida, y me hizo recordar a esa niña que se ponía su uniforme lista para ir a estudiar. Años después me dedico a dar clases, queriendo transmitir el mismo tipo de mensajes positivos que Facundo nos brindó. Que descanse en paz...

Hasta hace poco no era consciente del regalo que tenemos como clima en Guatemala, las temperaturas nunca suben ni bajan extremadamente, y cuando llueve lo hace por la tardes pero con una mañana llena de sol! Es el clima más lindo del mundo.

Until now I wasn´t aware of the beautiful gift that is the weather in Guatemala, the tempertures never increase or decrease too drastically, and when it rains, it happens in the evening but we have a morning full of sun! It´s the best weather in the world :)

Some time ago I did a post about some illustrations I was working on, but couldn´t publish, so now I can :) All of this work belongs to the National Reading Program "A leer se ha dicho" Libro de teatro infantil, for fourth and sixth graders in Guatemala. I really love the process of reading the plays and designing the characters.
